hey all. 92 geo tracker.was running fine came home turned it off next morning went to start and all it did was crank. a loud humming type or clicking type noise comming from fuel pump relay. i listened in tank and didnt hear fuel pump so i jumped relay and heard pump come on. figured that was it. got new relay and still same thing BUT i can hear pump running. also a clicking noise under hood at egr control unit with a vacuum on top. will start with starting fluid for a second so spark is fine. any one have any ideas? i cant pull codes because i have no service engine/check engine light that works for some reason. thanks all in advance.

Bad grounding or corroded wires giving 'barely' enough voltage to turn the system (ECM) on. Look at the power to the ECM circuit for corrosion or poor grounding.

thanks 4 the reply. seems like its gonna be the ecu i took it out and tried grounding it direct and still same thing.

There are several ground wires from the ECU, the case is only grounded as part of the high frequency noise rejection scheme.

help please  my 1990 sidekick fuel pump works fine  but  no gas in the spark  plugs
 and I like to know  where  the  fuel relay  is located

im also having similar issues with my tracker... relay clicks when keyed on, but pump wont turn on... I plugged a battery charge in and hooked it up directly to the pump and it came on, So I am thinking relay, or maybe a grounding issue?

Problem is no one carries them, and the you pick yard here had 7-8 trackers... all missing the fuel pump relay. Guy at autozone said to check out the fuel shutoff module, but I cant find the damn thing... anyone know where to find that at?

The main relay right next to the fuel pump relay (on the harness) is the same relay.

There is no fuel shutoff module.

The fuel pump wires in behind the drivers side tail light are known to corrode and make poor or no connection.

A bad ECM can also cause the fuel pump to not run and/or the fuel pump relay to chatter.

The main relay right next to the fuel pump relay (on the harness) is the same relay.

And that makes sense, my drivers taillight actually fell out because its rusted so bad right there. I have checked the wires there and regrounded the thick black wire that was right there. theres a few broken wires but they are just for the marker light. The fuel pump wires looked fine

A lot of times the wires will corrode inside the plug and won't be able to tell unless you disconnect the connector.

The earlier trackick had the big box that combined the fuel pump and the main relay.  The later trackicks had 2 separate relays side by side that were the same.
I thought it was only the 89 and maybe 90 trackicks that had the combined relays, but maybe your 92 has it too.  In either case, the relays are connected to the ECM bracket (or are supposed to be).

ok cool, so i know i have the right relay then... its a 90 so its the bigger combined one like i thought.

How do I go about cross jumping the relay to figure out if that is indeed the problem?

You are gonna have to figure out what wires do what and go from there.  I can look in my book later and see if I can find anything, if you don't figure it out.

You take the plastic cover off of the relay and push the contacts down with your finger instead of the 12v from the ecm.
