ignition system issues- 1990 Suzuki Samurai JL EFI

So this whole problem started on the way down from Washington to move to Texas.

So what I have done so far to try to get it to run and in the area of testing
I tested to see if there was fire from the coil and there is none. So I performed the resistance test on the coil to see of there was any problems with it it tested out just fine. However I dont know if HEI coils can test out fine and still be bad. Also tested the ignition control module it didnt read out at all like it was supposed to do so I replaced that yesterday. Now i am stumped and extremely frustrated.

Does anyone know enough about the EFI models to help me out.

Please i love this car and have been dying to get her to run since i moved to my new location.

Were you driving it to Texas or was it on a trailer? also does the rotor under the cap turn when you crank it over?

Its quite likely to be a faulty ECU, if it hasn't been refurbished already then its 22years old and well past the end of its life. When you turn on the ignition do you hear any relays click? Does the Check Engine Light come on at key on? I'm not very familiar with the 1990 I would expect it to have a jumper in the fuse box for pulling the fault codes using the Check Engine Light.

hawk suzuki will test your ecu for free you pay to ship. If ecu is bad you can send it to dave ruberg he can rebuild it for $80 lifetime  1 507 429 4489

My biggest question is if they still offer that because I do know that hawk was bought out by low range off road and I dont know what is now offered by them. I will probably be contacting low range off road and asking them if they test the ecu. Also an update I had also replace the pickup coil and the ignition coil and tried the check engine light trouble codes but my light no longer works so at this point I have no way to diagnose my car. . . I am thinking of pulling my ecu out and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of how to do that I know where it is I just want to avoid pulling out the entire dash. I also do not have an impact driver any suggestions ?

Try Trail Tough, they have Hawks old inventory.

The ECU is under the dash on the drivers side, next to all of your fuses.  Check out Acks Faq or suzukiinfo.com, you can get FSM (Factory Service Manual's) that will show you how to tear most things apart.

just pull the inside of the glove box out and you can get to the screws. If you call low range ask for william he's the one who checked my parts and the only one left from hawk

The ECU is under the dash on the drivers side, next to all of your fuses.  Check out Acks Faq or suzukiinfo.com, you can get FSM (Factory Service Manual's) that will show you how to tear most things apart.

Wrong vehicle.  Samurai EFI ECMs are bolted to the passengers end of the firewall.

ghost, there is 1 screw holding the top of the ECM and 2 screws holding the bottom of the ECM.  An impact driver is hard to use on the upper screw, since it is up high behind the dash.  But sometimes you can use a impact driver, with a #3 bit, and with the impact driver handle being bigger than a normal screwdriver, it will give you enough leverage to be able to get the screw/bolt broke loose, so you can remove it.  If you can't get it out that way, and you don't want to remove the dash, then if you remove the battery, you can see the end of the top bolt on the engine compartment side of the firewall.  You can take a torch and heat up the bolt and that should make the bolt much easier to remove by hand.  A torch will damage the paint a little bit, but not usually too bad, and a little touch up paint will take care of it.

Also, EFI samurais do have a diagnostic slot in the fuse block (the lower right hand slot).  You can put a fuse in that slot, turn the key to run and the CEL should start flashing, to tell you what codes the ECM has in it.

The ECM is very likely the issue with the coil having no fire.  EFI samurais have well known problems with the capacitors in the ECM going bad and needing replaced, as well as needing some of the traces on the board fixed (because of the caps leaking and damaging them).
