flashing sensor light
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:57:23 PM »
I'm a first time Sami owner with an 87 rag top with 80K original miles. had the ride for almost 8 months now.  Vehicle runs OK, fast idel till warmed up but last weekend the sensor light began flashing.  I've searched through the Clymers manual but found nothing relating to flashing sensor light.  I've checked all fluids, they're OK, Alternator seems to be working fine.  Any help is appreciated.  One mechanic I spoke with suggested electrican tape over the light to fix the problem.

I think the flashing is a code to tell you whats wrong, usually a single blink (indicates a 1)
and a series of blinks after like 3 or 4 or 5, this indicates the second # say its 4 flashes, combine the two and you get 14 this is the code telling you what part is bad. Now on a Sammy, I'm not sure
what electrical parts there are to go bad, if it has EFI then there are more.

Give it a shot

The sensor lite comes on automatically after a set number of miles. To reset it, simply move the little two position switch located on the steering column under the wheel to the other position. Then after another 20000 miles, it will come on again and you can move the switch back. It took me a while to find out about it.
