weber/pressure reg/fuel pump-2nd try
« on: March 11, 2011, 08:40:16 AM »
Guys, my question got highjacked with a discussion of Bernoulli-no worries
After reading the discussion(s), still not sure:

1.   Will the stock mech pump, with a pressure reducer work?
1a. Or do I HAVE to/better idea to replace the fuel pump?
I got one regulator+fuel pump response
one: regulator and existing pump response

Thanks for the replies.

Yes the stock pump will work - the location and type of pump are not really that critical (within reason - you wouldn't want a 70 psi fuel injection pump, but the stock mechanical pump is fine), what's important is that you reduce the delivery pressure to that required by the carburettor - and my apologies for derailing your thread.

No worries Fordem, you have also helped me through other issues.  I am thinking there is more than one way to skin this cat, I just did not pick up on the need to change the pump when adding a weber.  I did hear the pressure needed to be decreased with a reducer.
I greatly appreciate everyone's input/help and opinions.
If there is a reason the pump needs to be replaced, I need to hear it.  Once again I am off into uncharted territory which is very cool and value the input from others who have gained experience with these vehicles.
Thanks a ton,
JS

The stock fuel pump puts out 3-4 pounds of pressure, and I believe the Webber prefers around 2.  While it usually isn't an issue a lot of people will install a fuel pressure regulator in between the fuel pump and the Webber to keep it at the recommended pressure.

Jesse!

hendrixautospeed a seller on eBay, list a spectre fuel pressure regulator kit 1-5# for $22.99 shipped!!
Tried to link it, but must not know how. A simple little inline unit with preset notches that are supposed to be right on calibration!

Hope this helps!!

empi makes a pressure regulator that gets a bad rap regularly, however i've used them (20+ years), with no problems, with webers(vw projects back then), including my suzuki with stock fuel pump.
i get them thru j c whitney.
