« on: August 27, 2011, 05:26:48 AM »
My 93 8v 2wd tracker is slowly fading away I have a 98 4x4 that I thought about putting the nice 2wd body on and and keeping the 16v engine in will all the wiring and the dash.cluster fit in the 93 dash or is there a better way I have to keep the 93 dash and swaping bodys is the best route I see to get what I want lol

Dashes are different.  Wiring is different.  Clusters are different.  Sounds like a PITA to me.
I think if I were doing it, I would just put the 98 engine and wiring in the 93.  You may still have to change a few wires around in some of the plugs, to get everything to work though.

Just convert the 92 to 4wd.  You would have to swap both front and rear gears into the 93 though, since the 98 has 4.30 gears and the 92 has 4.62 gears.

I took the 5.12 gears outta a 96 5 speed and put in the 98 and a lock rite in the rear with grand vitara 4 door v6 coils all the way around was going to install a body lift at this time to try and get 31s on it its got 30s now the frame is perfect in the 98 the 93 not so much lol I got a lift in the garage thats why I was thinking  body swap might be easier I forgot to metion my dad has a junk yard got about 3000 cars so I have access to a lot of parts and other things. The 98 got most of its parts from there lol I am just new to suzukis been wheeling full sizes for years

It won't be plug&play, but you can get by without a complete wiring change.  It will be much easier if you have both FSM's, or prints of both their wiring schematics (check ACK's).  Then it is just one page or wire at a time until you have covered ECM/TCM wires.  The 98 fuel tank has a pressure sensor that the ECM wants to see, so you will need to run those wires also.
I have made up spread sheets with all the pins in one plug, and what plug & pin they go to, what color wires are on both ends (your swapped wires may be different) what voltage it should be and if power what key position it needs.  Also what page in FSM I got information from.  Grounds are very important, and easily over looked.
If you can't make up the spread sheet, or a complete diagram for each plug on the 98 ECM/TCM, then this swap may be more than you can handle.  Try Low Range, or Hawk for a 16v swap wiring harness for the 93.

I know that Ack's http://www.acksfaq.com/ has a lot of wiring diagrams.  I have the 93 FSM, but will be out & about for a few weeks.
While a transplant did not used to be an issue with older non-computer motors, with computerized motors, transmission, & body controls, it can be very time consuming.  While I don't think this swap should be that involved, just letting you know it can be.  Having the donor car available for wiring connectors will help speed things up.  Also figuring out to just swap pins in the connectors will help.

If you go ahead with this, there are lots of experienced members here that will give good advise.

I just gotta find a diagram to start with then just take alittle time going to try and use all the 98 harness steering colmun and so forth that I can get by with right off the bat I can see I am going to lose my tach but that is just a after market fix lol thanks guys I will try acks and see what I can find thanks guys

No, you won't have to loose your tach.  They are both 4 cyl. so tach in dash will work.  What you will need is the Speedometer sending unit for the OBD2 computer, and there are aftermarket fixes for that.  I think the 98 Speedo. can replace the one in dash so everything will work.  You will have to replace the electronic/mechanical unit inside the instrument cluster.  Eric knows the way to do it with aftermarket equipment.

Did you try that link to ACK's?  Getting to the diagrams can be a little confusing, but once you do it, it makes sense, there are a lot of diagrams.  He is  great asset, and must put in a lot of time keeping it up.  http://www.acksfaq.com/ then go to SEARCH, then in second box put WIRING.  That should get you started.

The wiring is really similar through the different years, and mostly use same colors.

I believe the 98 still has the cable for speedo., but the electronic signal from the speedo. to the ECM is different than the one some 93's generate (OBD1 vs. OBD2).
