2.3 TPS recalibration instructions needed
« on: October 14, 2022, 07:59:31 AM »
I am wrapping up a 2.3 swap into my tracker that I had previously done a 2.0 swap to. Unfortunately while moving the engines around I broke the TPS and had to swap it out with a different one. I have tried searching but cannot find instructions to calibrate the new sensor that would be specific to the 2.3 or even the 2.0 engine. I have seen instructions that involve just switching the key off and on and messing with the gas pedal as well as ones the require a multimeter. Just looking to see if anyone has done this and what was the correct process.

Are you sure an adjustment is required?

The attached page is from the FSM for my J20a equipped Vitara, it doesn't mention any adjustments.

Which throttle body will you be using?  The original or the J23 one?

No I'm not 100% sure. I have heard that if you replace a TPS it needs recalibrated. I am just trying to make sure it is running correctly. I used the J23 throttle body. I have only ran it for about 15 seconds because the radiator and stuff isn't hooked up yet. I will have more on an idea once I can allow it to get to temp. There wasn't a lot of information going from the 2.0 to the 2.3 so a lot of this stuff I am just trying to figure out has I go. Any help is very much appreciated.

For the TPS, look at the mounting holes, if they are slotted to allow adjustment then calibration is required, if not, then it's not.

Have a read of the thread below ...

I took a look at the TPS Friday after work and it is not the adjustable type. I already read thru that discussion. I have read thru all the ones I could find before attempting this swap. Also made a call to Trail Tough. (they have no experience with this swap) Thanks for the help. I have the rig running but it needs a little fine tuning to be right. Hopefully by the end of the week I will be driving it again. If you are curious the first part of the swap is already up on my you tube channel at Trash Panda Offroad.
