Aluminum Radator in a Samurai.
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:23:26 AM »
I am considering putting in an aluminum radiator as when worked hard, my temp goes up fast. I have a 1.6 16 v converson. The problem O have is which rad to use thats out there? Ebay has 2 stores one a single core for about 120.00 the other looks real good , 2 core all alum. ( both also have the tank in alum ) its sold direct from China. 125.00 plus 85.00 shipping. Anypne have any experience with these. Our well known venders also offer a 2 core but at 275.00 plus shipping. I wonder if they are all the same china product ?

What type of stock radiator do you have?

If the top and bottom are metal (as opposed to plastic on the Post-88 engines), another choice you have is to get your stock radiator cleaned ( or "rodded" ) at a radiator shop.

I have a 1.6 8-valve that runs great on a cleaned-up 1.3 radiator.

I hope that this helps!

Everyone of our 1.6 conversions whether 8v or 16v are ONLY done with bolt in 1 core aluminum radiators. a 16v engine can not be overheated even once. I love the 16v but it can cook itself in less than a mile of driving if overtemped. The worst thing about a 16v is that the plenum sensor can not read steam so a C-H gauge is worthless. At least you are noticing the needle rise. But you could get to the point where the needle drops back to cool when it is really hot. You need a real water temp gauge.

Now to answer your question I have 2 sources for aluminum radiators

genesisautoparts.com $125 shipped 1 core aluminum bolt into Samurai
lowrangeoffroad.com $179 shipped (I believe) 1 core aluminum bolt into Samurai

Get one it will help a ton.
