I'm in the process of stripping down and repairing a 1993 4-door Sidekick and prepping it for a VW diesel swap.  With the diesel, I won't need any engine electronics, much less the Suzuki ECU.  I'm not a big fan of keeping unnecessary pieces, so I've been pulling out all the pieces I don't need.  Does the ECU control anything in the Sidekick besides the engine, or do I need to keep it in to control something else?  My 'Kick has the 5-speed, not the auto.

Pretty sure that the ECU just controls the engine. (ECU does stand for Engine Control Unit, in my glossary anyways:) 

On a '93 with a manual transmission, you're probably right - on a later model, especially one with automatic transmission, you might not be - I do know of other Suzukis on which the one box controls both engine & transmission, and even though the correct name is PCM or Powertrain Control Module, it is still frequently referred to as the ECU.

thabeana - take a look at Ack's FAQ - I recall seeing diagrams there but I'm not certain if they were SideKick or Samurai specific.

Thanks, I just didn't want to pull it and later find out that it was necessary for something like the headlights or something.  I know if I pulled the computer out of my Lincoln, nothing would work.  It's nice to have a simple vehicle to work on.

I would pick up a FSM for your vehicle and look at the wiring.  You should be able to wire most of your body electrical into the ECu from your donor vehicle.  That way it controls all of your body electronics as if it was the original car.
