Samurai Taillight Seals / Gasket????
« on: April 12, 2011, 06:25:09 AM »
I had to replace a taillight bulb and I found that there was no seal betweel the lenses and the housing.  All the bulbs were rusted in place and I had to break them all and rip them out.  I assume there should be a seal here.  Can anyone confirm??  Can you describe it.  I was thinking of putting some silicone cord stock in the recess to make a nice seal.

Thanks.

Mine 1st set had this same condition,
There was a Atrophied flat gasket in the grove,
but also the bottom of the unit has drain holes so its not sealed anyway.
Same with the side lights.

I always cannibalize these on every junk yard safari, as having the lites in the bumper,
they are a common casualty on trail trips, too.

The Sidekick has a foam seal, I think the silicone cord is an excellent idea
as a replacement gasket, and you will never have to replace it because it
gets old and hard and cracking

I ordered a set of new taillights off eBay for a friend. came complete with bulbs and all for like 50 bucks. made a real nice improvement in looks and safety. might want to think about that.
