Before I buy: WHEELS
« on: February 27, 2012, 05:29:53 PM »
Ok before I buy these wheels I found I want to make sure they will work, they are 5 on 5.5, this is is the same as the Samurai, and they are 15x8. I searched by bolt pattern and these came up, but it says for the Jeep CJ. I know they are the same bolt pattern but I don't want to buy something that won't work and I'll have to send back. Thanks

Make sure the center bolt opening is 4.25". I like a back spacing of 3.75 or 4.0" as a preferance. If the wheels fit on a Jeep Cj they should be fine on your Samura.

The back spacing is 3.75" and the center bolt opening is what I'm worried about.

You need to make sure the center hole is at least 4.25 or they won't fit over the lockout hubs. Early model CJ Jeeps fit without an issue. As do early model 4wd Dodge and 4wd Ford trucks.

Trouble with Ford and Dodge trucks the had some different hub sizes. 3.75 if I remember correctly. (so use some caution when you make your purchase). I bought a set of Ford truck Outlaw style rims and had to mill out the centers because I didn't verify the center hole diameter. Luckily I work in a machine shop so it wasn't a problem just some lost time.

Here are some OEM rims that may be of interest to you and others.

Lug pattern 5.5 or 5 X139.7

98 - on Tracker
05 - on Dodge Dakota
04 - on Dodge Durango
94 - 97 Dodge Ram
66 - on Ford Bronco
54 - 97 Ford Truck
03 - on Kia Sorento
94 - 02 Kia Sportage

Suzuki
89 - 97 Sidekick
96 - 98 X90
01 - on XL7
98 - on Vitara
99 - on Grand Vitara

Another option is to reverse the Suzuki rim. (mount with valve stems in) The offset pushes the tires further out. Valve stem holes can be welded shut and a new hole re-drilled. Keep in mind these are those 5.5" wide rims.

If they are off a CJ, the center hole IS cut for a hub.....ALL CJ WHEELS ARE...
3.75" is going to cause some scrub on larger tires though. I'd be looking for 3" back spacing to be safe......Boxcar...

Ok so here's the deal. I don't have the stock rims, that's what I really want. And as for tire size, I am going from 255/65/R15 to a 225/70/R15. I think it looks better and gives me a thinner tire at the same height.

Suzuki
89 - 97 Sidekick
96 - 98 X90
01 - on XL7
98 - on Vitara
99 - on Grand Vitara

I was looking at some of the Late Model Vitatra/GV wheels, caught myself speeding up/slowing down to see the centers, and they don't look like the center is anywere near 4.25 could you explain what you mean? Thanks

I probally need to verify the newer Vitara's. This listing was comprised in 07. Bottom line 4.25 center hole if not don't buy them unless you have the ability to modify them or don't mind paying to do so.

You were right about them working though. I was at walmart today and saw one sitting still, so I took a gander and low and behold they were the right ones. Thanks.

 Good deal Zack,

Thanks for the info! I really should research some of the newer models to see if there are additional vehicles, models that can be added.

Good luck with your purchase! Once you get them post a few photos for us to see.....
