My '91 A/T has a leak. It was recently rebuilt, apparently poorly, and the shop has gone out of business. The transmission pan gasket has since been replaced with gasket sealer on both sides with the bolts properly tightened. Everything from the engine crank pulley to the transfer case has been cleaned with brake cleaner.
I just had the front end up on ramps to replace the exhaust manifold to header gasket and noticed transmission fluid dripping from the rear of the catalytic converter. There is little or no drip with the car sitting level. Transmission fluid appears to be traveling across the exhaust system support that attaches to the transfer case. Although the transfer case seems to fully attach to the rear of the transmission, is there a path for fluid leaking from the rear main transmission seal to get out and cause the drip I am seeing? How big of a job is it to drop the transfer case?
