Hello, new to the forum and to the Samurai world. I recently purchased a 1987 Samurai. I tried adjusting the valve lash, and now when I start it up it will idle normal for a bit then throttle way up. It's to the point that I have to shut it off or it will keep going into the red. I've never done a valve adjustment before. I'm pretty sure I did it right, but it's possible I messed up. I used a Haynes manual along with quite a few online resources. I'm thinking I knocked something loose, but when I check everything looks okay. Could a bad valve lash adjustment make the engine race like this? Or is it more likely something I knocked loose and what specifically should I inspect? The closest thing I could find online was a post about TPS (throttle position sensor), but from what I can tell the '87 didn't have a TPS.
Thanks for the help.
