AC Troubleshooting
« on: June 10, 2011, 12:10:36 PM »
Recently purchased an 87 tintop but the AC does not work (blows maybe slightly less than ambient air but hard to tell).

I'm a pretty good mechanic but have little to no experience with AC systems.  What's produced to track down what part(s) of the system have gone south?

Thanks

First thing to do is take it to a dedicated shop and make sure there isn't a leak in the AC system.  If that checks out you may just need to recharge it with some new gas.

I just went through a complete diagnostic of my AC system to get it working again, and a Factory Service Manual was essential. It gives step by step diagnostic instructions to pinpoint the issues. Worth having the manual if you planning on doing your own maintenence.
