ahhhhh help!!!
« on: May 09, 2010, 12:12:39 PM »
I am trying to bleed the breaks on my 91 samurai. it's a single line of the valve to the rear, goes into the pass side break caliper, then the line goes from there to the drivers side with a bleeder there. I have tried bleeding the breaks 3 times now and to no avail, they are still squishy... what gives? I started on the left rear, moved to the proportioning valve, and then the pass side front, and then the drivers front. is this wrong? what's the process? thanks for any help you can give.

I'm not quite positive, but that brake system sounds very similar to the one in my tracker. You start at the furthest point away from the master cylinder, which would be the drivers side rear ( if that's where the bleeder is for the rear, then pass front , then drivers front.
Why are you having to bleed the system? Was removal of the master cylinder involved?  I can tell you from experience that if you remove any one component from the brake hydraulic system, be it line, wheel cylinder or whatever, it's not easy to get them bled correctly. I use a Mity Vac bleeder on mine, and still have never got them as firm as I like. I read in the FSM about an attachment the connects to the master cylinder resiviour in place of the cap, that forces fluid through the system via a pressure pump. That sounds like the way to go.

yea, just like the trackick models.. 1 bleeder for the rear... it's stupid lol... any ways, I have done all of that, tried it multiple times and ways, i'm thinking changing out the m/c from the 1 i kept from the 87... the booster holds pressure on the vac.. but are they the same stroke? 87's and 91's? what about the whole booster w/ the m/c swap out? i'm having a heck of a time with this, and have never had any problems bleeding breaks...

the reason for this is, I took a stock samurai, 2wd model, and turned it into a krawler, front axle swap, lifted the rear, and swapped out 3rds.. (put in a locked 1) so I had to disconnect the break lines to remove the rear axles for the 3rd swap, and also when i added in the longer break lines. i'm stumped.........   >:(

Did you try gravity bleed them?Take the cap off the master cylinder crack the bleeder and let fluid drain out the bleeder and the air goes up the line to master cylinder. This is the way I  bleed my brakes .

no i haven't, that sounds like a very long process... I will try it if all else fails but do I do them 1 at a time? will the M/C change from an 87 to my 91? I have mine from the 87 sitting in the garage... any thoughts on if this will work? thanks
