That is normal, the face setting isn't actually connected to the heater.  It threw me off a bit as well.

That is how they are made... I know, right? The dash vent position mixes cold air into the system.

it's like when you turn on the lights/heater or anything that draws current...the rpm's go up....just weird. To combat this and get some air moving around I added a small fan on the dash and it just moves the air around. We did the same thing to the hummer H1...if you think the samurai has no heat you should try one of those in the winter.

i have an 89 sidekick that has an issue with the heater maybe someone can help.  the whole cooling system keeps filling up with sediment.  it plugs the radiator and the heater core.  i have to flush em both about once a month to keep em flowin.  the heater blows hot for about a week after the flush then it cools off.  i have been dealing with this for about 3 years now.  does anybody have any idea WHY it keeps doing this?  or where the sediment is coming from?  it dosnt leak any coolant.

Have you removed the thermostat and done a back flush?
seems to be about the only way to get all the crud out, and
even then you might still leave some behind.

There isn't any iron in these engines that touches the coolant,
except the impeller on the pump, could it be someone put a huge
bottle (or 2) of that radiator stop leak in it and its just all over the place
in your cooling system?

yeah i have pulled the thermostat and back flushed the system that way.  i have never used the radiator sealer in it but i dont know what was done to it before i got it.  i have flushed the system about a hunderd times in the last few years and it still keeps filling up.  i would think i have flushed out ALL of the sealer by now if that was the case.  maybe im wrong.  when i got the truck the radiator was 3/4 full of junk and i had to replace it.  the only thing i could think of, is that the water pump is rotting apart but could that make that much junk? and for that many years?

Might be something with your heater filling it up.  Either that or the radiator.   Is it actual sand and such in the water or is it just rust?
