94 sammy running rought after warm up
« on: April 09, 2011, 02:58:46 AM »
Ok  I know I read threads on this before but can't seem to find them.

I have a 94 sammy, It runs great when its cold but once it warms up it runs really bad.  The check engine light was on. but the switch took are of that. Now when I plug into the diag. port, it does not flash any codes.

here is what it does.  when you first start it up it runs great. but once it warms up. if you hit the gas hard, it just stumbles and does not rev up. if you ease into the gas it will rev up just fine. but still has a loss of power.

tried replacing the O2 sensor and water temp sensor, they were unhooked. messed with the ign. timming and throttle position sensor but still does the same.  Any one have any ideas?

Check the Air Temperature Sensor and also clean out all the passageways for the EGR valve.

Make sure the thermostat is working. the MAP/MAF sensor could be the problem also. It sounds like after the engine warms and goes into closed loop, it is getting an off reading from a sensor that is causing the rough running ,sensors like O2 , MAF/MAP, coolant temp and intake air temp.

thermostat is working, new O2 sensor, new coolant temp sensor,   there is no IAT sensor(guessing it is a late 93 model taged as a 94, 93 models didn't have one from what i have read).

checked on a map sensor, but they are kinda pricey! going to clean the egr valve to see if that helps.  but still can 't get it to run right.  any other ideas?

I know that MAPs are pricey ,but maybe you can find someone to borrow one from? bad map sensors usually cause a rich condition ck for black somoke from the exhaust when running rough. also ck the cat convertor.

Does it flash code 12? you can download the EFI supplement for the FSM from suzukiinfo.com. If you don't have a multimeter then its worth investing in one and then going through the tests in the FSM, its a lot cheaper than throwing parts at it at random and it'll get it fixed faster.
That said when was the last time it had a full service and a fuel filter change?

Fuel pressure regulator

just gave it a full service.  full tune up. all filters. all the normal stuff.  tried a map sensor from a good running zuk. no different.   going to look into a fuel pressure reg.  just about checked for vacum leaks, did the comp. test all is normal( hot and cold).

Cant get the ecm to flash any codes at all.   I am guessing that might be the problem.  any one have a good used one laying around they want to sell.

also one other question.   I got a 94 8 valve efi tracker sitting here.  any parts usable off the tracker.

all else fails   the sammy is getting the whole drive trian set up.

There is an air intake temp sensor on my 89 Sidekick, it lives right next to
the coolant temp sensor in the intake manifold.

I am guessing the EGR is acting up, if the TPS is out of service, ehh, I have a bad
TPS on my Kick, but it really only causes a delay of about a half second, really
annoying when you need it to work right offroad but otherwise power is not
affected.

What is running bad??? Rich? low power?  Rough? E all of the above?  Check the
vacuum line that feeds the MAP for blockage, cracking, connected, I have found
the biggest thing that affects the running is the MAP, all of the other inputs are
more like fine adjustments to the fuel curve, the MAP is the big boss

Well I got it fixed.   First I did go through setting the tps and it checked out good.  had some spare parts laying around tried them but still was the same or even seemed to be getting worse.  lol

I have to explain a little about this buggy.  it was a parts rig up till about 4 weeks ago,  It ran and drove but barly.  I called it the mobile pile of crap. but it had a RRO jeep spring over kit. and 33 tsl boggers.  I only get a couple hours a week to work on it.  Its not my wheeler.  but wheeled it all day on an atv poker run about 4 weeks ago.  after that it was just moved around outside to work on it once a week or so.  just sat the rest of the time  started up a few time for people that wanted to buy it.  It always started right up.  so I pulled it around this morning messed with a few things.  and it seemed to be real bad today.   just decided to check the voltage, and here the thing wasn't charging and even better it was running on like 9 volts.  DUH!!  well theres your problem.  so thanks guys for the help.

Glad you got it solved, this is twice now a low voltage non charging
problem has done this that I have read of.

Need to keep this in mind when this happens again
