Do I need these?
« on: August 28, 2011, 10:55:06 AM »

I was removing as much of the dead airconditioning system as I could, and in order to remove the pusher fan and condenser coil, I had to remove these two braces.  All four top bolt heads sheared off, and the bottom four screws had to be ground off, so reinstallation is going to be a chore.

This is an '87 Sammy daily driver that seldom sees any off-road use, and only very mild when it does happen.

Those tie the front upper and lower parts of the hood/core support together.

Removing those will make the front floppy where the hood hold down is

Well, there are two fairly stout vertical members on either side of the grill opening, and the top of the front clip seems really rigid without these, but I guess I'll try to get them back in somehow.  Getting the sheared-off bolts out of the top memeber is going to be a challenge.  I may have to move them off-center a bit and use new holes.  I was thinking of replacing them with a single stouter one dead-center.  In the long run, it will be easier to do.  I appreciate your thoughts on this one.

Also, can I safely remove the brackets that held the AC compressor?  They have mounting bolts that go directly into the block.  I'd like to clean that area up as much as possible, but I'm wondering if I need to reinstall the mounting bolts, perhaps with spacers that mimic the thickness of the brackets.  Do you happen to know if they are blind holes?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, all the holes are blind in these engines, I take it you have a Samurai
as those two parts don't look like that on a Track/Kick, but on the Track/Kicks there is
a single brace in place
