4 wheel drive not working right.
« on: May 07, 2011, 05:27:49 PM »
Hey guys i looked through the forums and googled as well but cant find anything similar to my issue. to start i have a 96 4 door side kick. 6 inch like running 31's. MY issue is when i put it in 4h its sluggish to the point if i dont ride my clutch and hammer the gas it would stall... my 4l seems to be working fine... lots of torque, pulls fine i dont need to do anything extra it seems to be working perfect. i drained the fluid it looked great, no sludge or particles of anything coming out of it. and i dont think its the size tires, i had a 2 door with 31's and it moved those fine esp in 4h. any ideas on what it could be?

And it's not acting like that in 2wd? It should act the same in either 2wd or 4wd, unless
of coarse you are driving it on dry pavement, which is a big no no

no wild its working great in 2wd... and no to drive pavement... its really strange too when its in 4h and ride the clutch and give it gas... once when the clutch is no long in.. it moves but very slowly... like its going to bog again.. its like im trying to pull away in 3rd or something.

OK, that is weird, some tests are in order, first you have to be sure the hubs are
working correctly.

Did you check the T-case lube? Was it low? Have you added lube to it?

Did you check the front diff lube? Was it low? Have you added lube to it?

Lock the hubs, drive in 2wd, is the problem still there?

Now unlock the hubs and drive in 4wd high, is the problem still there?

Your pending test results may solve the question.
I'm thinking there could be a problem in the front axle, like fried bearings
or a problem with a T-case bearing in the front output.

lubes are all checked and were changed.. there clean and full.. the old lube was clean also and it was run for a bit. its spilling here all day and supposed to tomorrow but once it lets up a bit i will test the hubs again just to make sure and run the other tests.
