 ???
ok so, this is not my first kick or foryay but i am not an expert.
I bought a 1993 sidekick, spewing unburnt gass out the tail pipe.
I figured the motor was really worn and it needed a rebuild and I am fine with that diagnoses, it is a tin top, but its really clean, no rust, and i mean no rust, any way. check twice and dont fix whats not broken.
I brought it home and did a compression test at temp and it reads 155, 155, 155, 155. I am at about 1000 feet in elevation and that test does not seam horrible to me, well not proportionate to the issues with the rig.
I replaced the timing belt, adjusted the ignition rimming, checked the compression.

Here is the thing it is running on 1 and 4 with a weak fire on number 3 and nada on number 2, all 4 are getting spark, new plugs, oil, excetra. this is before and after all the above testing and replacing the timing belt none of the above changed.

during the testing i noticed that sometimes the misfires would stop and the motor would run clean, and then flood number 2 and 3, they are being fuel fouled, number 2 much more than number 3 but 1 and 4 are fine.

I am going to look at the injector harness and make sure no one did anything stupid, and then look at the injectors tomorrow, But i have not run across an issue where the injectors failed and flooded with fuel.

I will post pics and updates tomorrow evening, but i figured i would ask here, as this is what got me started with the zuks, and this forum was very helpfull building the first 2, i used to post as Mythose, but i lost acces to that email, any way let me know if you have any thoughts, I might coronary the vacume lines in the am as well but i think if it were a vacume issue it would effect all 4 not just 2 and 3.

Compression tests should really be done both wet & dry - the change in the numbers is where the real information can be derived - at first glance those numbers appear slightly low, which may relate to the higher elevation.

Presumably this is a 16v engine, check the vacuum line connected to the fuel pressure regulator, make sure the regulator is not leaking fuel into it - other than that, it would have to be injector related.

Thank you for your response i will let you know what i find today.

wet test shows 5psi higher than dry test.

which tents to tell me that it needs a valve job, and its due.
I will get to that when i am convinced that the fuel delivery issue has been resolved.

I am betting that it's bad injectors. Luckily they are only like $25 a pop. You can bench test them and see if they are working first.

Not necessarily - you might want to do a leak down test before pulling the head off.

The altitude does have an impact, and so does valve timing - it's not uncommon for the crankshaft timing gear key way on those engines to be damaged - one more thing - was the throttle plate all the way open and the engine warm at the time of the tests?

so updates,

I checked the vac lines and they are all good,
I tore apart the intake manifold and inspected the injector wiring harness, looked good.
number 1 injector looked bran new, numbers 2 3 and 4 were older so I replaced them.
and put ever thing back together
it  fired right up and ran nice, cant even tell its running with the doors closed.
it smoked for about 35 minutes im guessing it was ran for a while with crapy injectors and ignition trimming.
ran good for about an hour and then the throttle response went to crap, would not rev over 2500rpm unless you eased into the throttle, but it still perred at idle,i checked the timming with a light and its spot on, engine temp was good so i cheked the battery, it was about dead, i charged it for 20 mins fired it back up and it ran like a sewing machine with no smoke . . . so of you battery starts to get really weak and your altenator is shot it will not rev over 3k?

because its TBI it needs good voltage to keep it running good, if alternator fubared and battery good it will run good till battery voltage drops below 11 volts. or if battery scrap and alternator good it will run good till alternator cant keep charge on battery and battery volts drop below 11

The injector will run down to 7V so the problem is more likely to be a weak spark.

Do a fuel pressure test so you can eliminate the injectors & fuel pressure regulator.
