1.8 L Timing Chain R&R - Oil Pan???
« on: November 19, 2009, 07:58:23 AM »
Looking at the FSM pages for the 1.8 L Timing Chain Replacement, it says I have to remove the oil pan.

Why?

It doesn't LOOK like the oil pan is connected to the timing chain cover...

Does anybody have any experience on this?

Thanks!

although I'm not familiar with that motor, consider this, usually the oil pump is part of the front cover and the pick up tube hangs into the oil pan....

I replaced my timing chain and did not have to remove the oil pan. Just a few small bolts in the front for the timing chain cover. But I did see what you were talking about. The book also says u have to remove front diff to take the oil pan off. Didn't do that either. You will be just fine by leaving it on.
