Hey guys im new here. My name is joe and im a toyota tech from lafayette IN. I recently bought a tracker and kinda got ripped on the deal considering what it needed other than the body being ok (escept for rocker rust). So far ive replaced the cylinder 4 exhaust valve and replaced the vacuum modulator, and transmission filter along with a transmission flush.
It runs well now BUT still wont give me third gear when trans fluid is cool. and i say trans fluid because you can let it warm up without driving it and it will still make you drive to get the trans hot enough.

when it acts up itll shift into 2nd and then when it tries to shift into 3rd it just spins like neutral. if you rev it long enough itll catch eventually but im sure thats really bad.

Kick-fix.com says its most likely bad governor or bad governor screen. has anyone done one of these and can anyone verify that diagnosis?

That's a common problem after you change trans fluid, trans fluid by nature
has a high detergent quality, and tends to clean up the deposits the old fluid
has left in the trans and it works it's way into the valve body.

Usually just dropping the valve body and cleaning it will solve the problem,
and as you take it apart, you will probably find the issue, and maybe some
sticking plungers as well
