1.3 compression test.
« on: September 07, 2011, 06:53:12 AM »
Ok first alittle history on this motor before you toss out some ideas it was sitting in a guys garage for 7 years before I got the samurai and began to build it.  Although I did start it and drive it alittle bit to keep things lubed it sat basically another 2 years while I built it into a trail rig, now I took her out for her first trail run and over that weekend it began to smoke more and more.  before the run it would smoke after she warmed up real good after the run she smokes alittle at start, alot at warm.  The engine runs damn good other than the smoke and I do know that oil is leaking down into the cylinders from the head (plugs are wet, black.) Compression tests put everything about 170 so now im in the process of trying to decide what to do.

thoughts? (Keep in mind I love the 1.3 and dont want to go to the 1.6.)

Just a Thought.....
Have you checked/cleaned out/replaced the PCV ?

If it Clogged/Stuck/Broke, You maybe getting oil "To Burn" here!

170 comp sounds great for a stock 1.3.

Run Seafoam in the oil, and drive it, with 170 compression the rings
are good, but you are having oil control or scraper ring issues, probably
due to old oil just sitting in the engine.

I have seen "good" brand oil do some crappy stuff, and I would never
buy and use that oil ever again, you might change the oil and add the stuff
or just add the stuff and drive it, see what happens, this worked for another
ZW board member, and he's now a happy camper....Er Zuker lol

With 170 PSI, unless you did a wet test with a shot of oil
down the cylinder, I think you have a tight engine, unless
the valve guide seals are really shot
