« on: March 08, 2012, 09:58:48 AM »
i bought a 97 sidkick recently and i want to put it into four weel drive but the hub on the right side will not move. its stuck in the unlocked ostiong so i have no four wheel drive. one of the big reasons i wanted the main reasons i wanted this car was the four wheel drive.anyone one have any sugestions for a reason that it doesnt want to lock in? is it just rusted and locked or will i need to get a whole new hub?

It could be broken but I think your problem may be easier to solve.

Most "normal" non-enthusiasts just drive these things and fail to maintain anything (that has been my experience anyways). I've got 2 of these trucks and up here in the winter salt I have seen 100% failures when it comes to the hubs,  buying used of course.  Thankfully they are easily rebuild-able. Pop them off take them apart and clean it real good. Put it back together with a LIGHT coat of grease and away you go.

your 97' may have the GM designed hubs instead of the Aisin, my 98' JX did. You can tell because they are one piece construction, ie they dont have a removable endcap like the aisin and warn hubs do, only the rotating selector in the center. I simply oredered a set of Warn hubs and called it a day rather than messing with them.

I was wondering where the one-piece hubs I have sitting in the garage came from.  Threw me off not being the standard Aisin hubs.
