my 96 geo spedometer quit working. I replaced the cable, still nothing, pulled gear plug from tranny and to my surprise gear was stripped on spedo end and tranny gear. Can this be replaced in transmission?

If it's a 4wd the speedo drive is in the transfer case and the back of the case must be pulled apart to replace the drive gear.

One quick question, does the odometer still work? A common issue on the 96's is for the speedometer to break in the dash. I have a spare one sitting on the floor of my 96 waiting to be installed.
