Sport Parts # List
« on: August 05, 2012, 03:05:36 PM »
Hi, this is my first post, I've read the forum about cover to cover. I have a 98 Suzuki Sidekick Sport, 5spd, manual hubs, 80,000 miles, even got leather seats! The truck's a blast, but it seems it's going to be challenging to mildly mod it. Though extreme stuff it seems the Sport is more accepting than the regular Trackkick., vitara & escudo engine swaps, sas etc. One day this'll be my toy and it'll get messed with alot.

Untill then it's got to survive as my daily driver till I graduate and get a real job. I'm also under the impression that it's a bastard between the 1st Gen Sidekicks and 2nd Gen Vitaras. I'm hoping that one of you guys would have part # lists for the 98 Sport and the newer 99+ Vitaras. I want to go through them and see what replacement parts I can get out of newer vehicles.

Also, does anyone know of a list that's been started or of parts that swap easily?

I'll post up what I find, for the sake of the other sport owners here.

Jim

Hi Jim

Congratulations og your Sport, I have a 1997 Auto, Sport myself running 33" tires, 5.83:1 R&P with lockers front and rear plus loads of other mods. My dad just recently got one exactly the same but 5spd.

You are sort of right that the Sport is a bastard vehicle with limited production and not to common parts that swap with other models. I live in Iceland and have had lots of help from the local Suzuki dealer regarding such information. Many parts for the drive train interchange with the V6 2.0L gasoline engine Vitara and the 2.0L Diesel Vitara (Technically a Mazda motor if I recall). Even though the Sport shares a very similar frame width with the Grand Vitara there are almost no parts that interchange.

I am sorry I do not have part numbers for you. There are places to obtain lift kits, lockers, wheels & tires and more. Altered Ego Motorsports, Low Range Off Road, Trail tough, Rocky-Road and many more carry parts than can fit your vehicle.

Best regards,
Tryggvi

Google on keywords torrent & WWEPC - you should find a hacked copy of the old Suzuki Worldwide electronics parts catalogue - it's probably valid to around 2005, but it does cover the SE416 Sidekick, the SV418 Sidekick Sport and the SQ420 Vitara/Grand Vitara which will be your main areas of interchange.

The two models that Tryggvi mentioned probably won't do you much good - assuming you're in North America - because they were never sold there

Good luck.
