rusty tracker mods
« on: November 03, 2010, 11:54:10 AM »
I just bought a 94 geo tracker lsi 4x4 2dr hardtop and I live in New York where they use a ton of salt on the roads so it has a lot of rust on it. It had holes the size of footballs in the rear wheel wells and we fixed that now. I had originally planned on getting a lift kit, putting some 31's on it and mounting a brush guard to the front but was wondering if I mess with things too much if things will start to brake on it cuz its so rusty? Anyone else have experiences with rusty trackers/sidekicks. Is it safe to do a lot of work to it, or should I just wait a little while and buy one from out of state thats free of rust?
               thanks

It is a tough call.  I have seen people completely rebuild parts of the body to combat rust and make their rig nice and clean looking again.

One them to remember is that the Trackers have an actual frame.  So unless your frame is rusted through it is pretty save to do some mods.  :)

ok, thanks. my frame has some rust but no holes. Im thinkin this will be my experimental offroad vehicle and then once this dies build a nice one. I dont want to put too much money into it and then have something go wrong.

Well, you can always pull the mods off and bolt them to the new one.  :)

my kick has 31s, did a 2 inch sl and 3 inch bl, trimmed back of frt fenders and all is well, the only issue is with my sons old kick  we were going top do the same but the body mount were so rusty we couldnt do the bl, with a 2 inch sl we ran 235s witch worked well, new mounts can be built fairly easy if you are a fabricater of sorts??
