Torqueing the Ring Gear
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:22:44 AM »
86 Samurai
Stock differential w/locker

Does anyone have a tip on holding the diff. case down so I can torque the case cap and ring gear in?  Do I just need to find a gorilla big enough to hand hold it (58-65 ft/lbs)?

Also am I reading the case cap bolt torque right 27 - 32.5 ft/lbs?  It seems pretty high for those little guys.

Thanks, Jim

I use  a chain style pipe wrench. Dont remember torque values off hand.

Thanks tipover. Hopefully I can find one to rent. Wonder if a large oil filter wrench and cheater would work?

I got the rear locker in and 4.9:1 transfer case gears. It's a modest ride, but just what I want for now.
