87 Samurai running hot....

1.3 on an a electric fan, no shroud(may make one soon) new aluminum radiator, new 160 thermostat.  Ive check and water is flowing with cap off at 160 so the water pump seems to be working.  Timing is set at 10 degrees.  I heard that with the weber carb if it was running lean it would make it run hot.  Also if i have a vacuum leak i would run hot as well.  It runs around 190-200 on the road in 2x4 but when i put it in 4x4 in first gear it shoots up and up.  Do you think that its an air flow issue or...  Was hoping someone here has had the same problem and could help me out.

Shroud it now, not later....
 Running lean will make it run hot.
Aluminum radiators don't cool as well as the original copper and brass.Vacuume leaks always a bad idea.
And a 160 is to cold for the 1300. You should be ruining a 180 - 185......Boxcar...

Changed the water pump(old one looked fine), *got timing straight at the crank* and went with a 16 inch electric fan.  Its still on jack stands waiting on new axles but started it and romped on it for 40 mins and it never went past 160!!!!!  Before it was running at 200.  

There are lots of people online with an over heating issue and i bet its bc most have jumped timing.

I dont really understand how factory radiator would run cooler than a aluminum radiator as aluminum transfers heat way better.  Please explain.....

Its running cool now.  It was the timing at the crank.

A brass radiator has a much higher soak rate and better heat transfer.  http://flex-a-lite-blog.com/2010/03/30/radiators-aluminum-vs-brass/
 Your engine will develop it's best power between 170 and 190 degrees.
Run an aluminum engine to cold and you will damage it.....Boxcar...
