lift kit
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:36:12 PM »
Would you guys before the both on 5 inch kit from calmini or the bolt on 6 inch lift kit from rocky road? I am just learning and want to lift it first. Would I have to put different gears in my transfer case as well with this kind of lift. Thanks

I can't give an opinion on the lifts but re-gearing has nothing to do with the lift, its something to consider with larger tires though. Im sure you'll be adding larger tires if you lift it 5-6".

With 31" tires I would look at a 4.8:1 transfer-case.  That should put you right back to stock gearing.  If you just want to lift, both sell quality hardware.  I like the Sky Manufacturing Stage 2 SPOA lift myself as the best bang for your buck, but it does require welding.

What do you plan on using the Samurai for?

my plan is just to use it for messing around in. No rock climbing and stuff like that.

A 2" OME lift and 30" tires with a 4:1 t-case kit might be just what you need then.  Great for adventure style wheeling, looks good and isn't quite as aggressive as the 5-6" lifts.  Supposed to be a nice upgrade from the stock ride as well.

This is the lift I went with for "just messing around" except I have 4.9:1 tc and 1" over stock shackles. It is fine even for some rock crawling and the ride is definitely better than stock.
