Tires
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:15:03 PM »
Good day.
Need new tires ASAP. I was planning on getting 225/75/R15 but if 235/75/R15 will fit wit no rubbing I will be getting those on Friday. Vehicle is an "04 Chevy Tracker.

I have the 235/75/15's on my 2001 4 door Tracker. The only rubbing I get is at close to full turn. Very slight when I hit full compression in the rear. It doesn't take long to learn not to turn as sharp. The only time I even notice it is when I do a u-turn on my street. It put my speedo off by about 5%. I also think the vehicle looks better with bigger rubber!

go with 235's, you will be glad you did.  every vehicle seems to have slight differences as to when things rub.  it really is NO problem if the tires touch the frame at full lock.

Found 4 new 235-75-R15 mud/snow tires for $275 (carry out). They're on-road tires (where I spend most of my time) with an aggresive look and just enough off-road traction for bunny rated trails lol.

My 2-cents= I'm in agreement with the 235 size tire recommendations.  I don't know why they didn't come standard from the factory with these size tires.... (and for that matter with 5.12 gears,  2 inch taller struts,  longer springs, electronic/air differentials (maybe as an option), hefty skid plates, and a thorough rustproofing of the undercarriage).

I noticed those were prime well Brand tires you had there... the local tire barn sells quite a few of these.  The ones that caught my attention were a set of 265/85/16s.   Appeared to be about 32" tall (pizza cutter) tires with some aggressive treads to boot.   Good prices on these tires too.  I was wondering if I had a 2" body lift if they would fit under my Tracker?  I think the 5:12 gears would pull them alright, but then I'd also have to grab a set of Suzuki 16" rims to mount them on.

265/85/16 would be 33.7" and thats a size I haven't heard of but if it exists it would be a cool size.

I think that would be a tough size to fit without a lot of mods and cutting.  I have 235/85/16 on my rover (31.8") and held them up in my stock tracker's wheel wells.  They "fit" but you'd never turn the wheel much and the fenders would be crunched off road.  You'd probably want even lower than 5.12's if you could.  It would look very cool though!

Maybe they were 245/85/16s.... (been a couple weeks ago since I saw them) but I loved how tall and thin they were.  I didn't take them outside to pose against the truck, but I did pull a 235/75/15 off the rack and drooled over the difference in height between the two.   Could grab another couple inches of ground clearance with them... but like I said I'd have to have more gear to pull them to keep from killin my clutch.  Anyway, I left a huge puddle of drool in the aisle by them.

PrimeWells are made by Firestone. I found this great price at my local firestone service center. They had some Pirmewell A/Ts and M/Ts also but it would be a waste of money for me to get those.

If anyone is interested, I have 2 full sets (one set 4, other is 5) of LT245/85R16" (31") for sale.

First set is on GV factory 16x7 JJ (deep dish) steelies with Mastercraft MTs. 4 wheels total.
Second set is GV Limited factory 16x7 JJ alloys (yeah, the ones with gold accent) with 4 Mastercraft ATs and an unused MT on the spare.  They even have factory Suzuki logo valve stem caps for the ultimate bling. ;)

Realistic offers and specific trades considered.

Yankee Tim, could you post up a pic of one of the alloy rim and tires you have for sale, please?   I'm thinking they look like the rims Jeff has on his Suzuki.
