Hey Guys, quick question:

I installed 1" coil spacers from Rocky Road Oufitters last August on my 2001 GV Ltd 95,000kms. , and even though it wasn't much of a lift my drive shafts were making a lot of banging noise due to the angle change, had to have them rebuilt. In November '07 I put on 245/70/16 BFG A/T tires, trimmed/cut the front wheel covers so they don't rub, they look great and the ride it still pretty smooth.

Here's the problem, it's only been 5 months (and I don't drive a lot) and now when i'm driving approx 40km/h on a highway ramp etc and turning the wheel slightly to the right i'm hearing a humming noise from the driver's friont tire, I can almost feel it through the floor. The same symptom happened to me with my old sidekick and it was the wheel bearing....

I was just wondering if everyone with bigger lifts/tires have experienced wheel bearing wear out, power steering wear out, transmission etc. so I can plan on what to expect with extra wear and tear?

You can expect some extra wear and tear on some things. Wheel bearings, tire size won't necessarily effect wheel bearings but wheel off set will. The wider the stance the harder it is on those. The tire you are running are not that big so i don't know if you willl have any probs with trans. But gears will compensate. I have 33X12.50 on my tracker. Have had no probs with wheel bearings yet but i have put a trans in it. But it an auto and I had a leak that i never realized till it was tooo late.

Hello i put front hub lock on my 2002 tracker last fall ,and when i removed the cap i saw the balls of the weel bearing there was almost no grease on the bearing ,so i use a needle with bearing grease and i fill it and i never heard of it after.


It looks like a problem on those truck (bearing ) but if there no grease !!!

I put in the same spacers last year as well, in my '99 2 door tracker.  No drive shaft, CV, or bearing issues.  My driving habits are similiar to, I'm just at 103,000 km.

The only big issue I have is the front diff.  You can check out the other posting on the Shift-On-The-Fly stuff.

Almost guaranteed that noise is wheel bearing!

Sounds like wheel bearing is done or lack of grease or preload is off.

Regardless. If it is making noise i wouldn't hesitate to change it. Its not going to get any better.

i've replaced the passenger side wheel bearing at around 50,000km. 

Ok so I had the truck up on the hoist this weekend, and the weird thing is after letting the front wheels spin (in 4x4) the passenger bearing was a bit noisy, the driver side wasn't, and there was no play in either wheels.

So I ordered an aftermarket hub/wheel bearing and replaced the passenger side....the truck now turns a bit easier but the noise is still heard/felt at about 40kms/hr. Either I changed the wrong side (believe me I thought for sure it was the driver's side, but if there is no noise or play but the passenger side was noisey then I changed the passenger side instead) or the noise is something else...poor tire balancing, BFG A/T tire making the noise at lower speeds (does anyone find this?) or something in the CV shaft.

Either way I know the noise isn't totally gone, but at least I know that there are no loose/dangerous front end components that I have to worry about falling off while I drive...for now. I might change the driver's bearing later this year anyways just in case it is the culprit, plus the old one taken off the passenger side was so rusty it might be a good idea just to change it.
