Body bolts
« on: March 02, 2009, 09:17:02 PM »
I was wondering if anybody new the size of the bolts used for the body mounts...i am going to make my own mounts...also, on body lift kits, if the advertised lift is 2", does that mean that the new bushing is 2" thick, and removing the old? What i am thinking of doing is machining some solid mounts, and retaining the original factory bushings, so i want to get my dimensions right.

I tried to follow this one and made adjustments for the difference between the 4 door Sidekick vs the 2 door Vitara

I used 3" square tubing 1/4" thick.  I only needed 8 blocks, not 10.  I had to cut the little tips off the body studs.
The instructions have the blocks on the frame and the rubber mounts moved up to around the tubing.
If I were to do over, I would put the block against the body, and cut the studs shorter to fit.  The body mounts on the frame are molded to fit the rubber, the mold holds the lower rubber mount like a really shallow cup.  My lift is now 3"+ about 1/8", as my spacer is sitting across the top of the frames molded mount.

Remember the front mounts behind the head lights are bolts.

If you want just 2" I would use 3X2 on its side.  This would allow enough surface for contact, and enough room for you to access the nuts/bolt in the spacer and sweep for your wrench.
