body lift info needed
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:02:42 PM »
i know i need to do modification to the shifters, steering shaft and bumpers and the goose neck. i am planing of buying 2 1/2" square tubbing and put a rubber on top of it to make close to a 3" body lift. but i seen a few lift selling on the web that use a bolt and stud type of thing to mount to place? can i just use regular 8 grade bolts with just enough tread instead? i am gona weld in a piece of tubing in the tubbing to keep the bolt as strait as possible

I've been told that some of the fasteners are not bolts, they are sleeves with the thread on the inside.

The bolts are welded to the body and of course are too short to add larger spacers between the body and frame. So not as simple as just adding longer bolts and spacers. Maybe one of the guys that make body lifts will sell you just the threaded sleeves?

i wonder if it would work if i can manage to put a nut on one side inside the square tubbing to the body bolts and another in the opposite side with new bolts to hold it up to the frame? just wonder if anybody try this?

i decided that all the body lifts out there, although where nice, they where a bit too expensive for some metal and fancy sleeve bolts
-purchased some pre-cut square tube
-drill holes in them
-cut out all existing 9/16 bolts and replace with 1/2 grade 8 hardware

not an easy task

some rotten body mounts

body mount infront of rear tire, access hole has to be cut in where rear seat is (4door and 2door)

lifted the front bumper (nothing will be done with rear bumper as making custom bumper to hold full size 33"+ spare tire)

patch holes
