Replacing passenger side axle seal?
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:43:34 AM »
Does anyone know of a trick to getting the passenger side CV out without removing the strut and messing up the alignment? I need to replace the axle seal.

You can do it by leaveing the spindle and the strut attached its hard tho. But first things first grab ur axle is it loose in the carrie if it is changing the seal is pointless

So what makes it loose? Is not supported by a bearing.

There is no camber adjustment on the GV's unless you've added it.  So removeing the strut shouldn't change anything.  If you do have camber bolt or something else you could split the ball joint :-X

I slotted the strut holes when I did the lift. Looks like the ball joint split may be the way to go.

Interesting, my seal is leaking and I just tried what you said, grabbing the axle and checking for slop... sure enough it seems a bit loose. What do I need to fix that? A bearing?

BTW, I just had this seal done when I got my 5.12 gears installed.  There are two OEM Suzuki part numbers for that seal:

09283-35008 was the original design, and has been superceded by the new part #09283-35052.  I would try to get the newer design.  I'm assuming it is improved versus the old design.  Good luck.

Brilliant man thanks... that helps. I went to the local parts store and had a hard time explaining what seal I needed (I think the dude was a little slow). Now I can just go to the suzuki dealer and give them a part number.

I'm still wondering if a bit of play is normal and if I need more than just a seal?

Thanks

The auto parts stores list it as an inner wheel seal.
