Putting an aftermarket stereo in a 2002
« on: May 29, 2007, 10:05:29 AM »
I traded some boxed subs and an amp for a new in the box aftermarket CD stereo this weekend.  It's a standard DIN size instead of the double DIN or "DIN and a half"...whatever the OEM radio is.

www.Crutchfield.com says that I have to use their universal kit to fill the gap.  Never had to do this.  Does anyone make a specific dash kit for these things?

Anybody else done this?

in my Tracker I have a single DIN cd player and I had to get a kit to make it fit properly. It isnt a universal kit though its designed for a Tracker. I think atleast I dont know I bought it off cardomain.com and they said if I bought it right then and there they would throw it in with the cd player.

I put this in my 2002 GV. The rack and bottom parts came from my old 1994 kick. I don't know about xl7...

You can always fill it with a clinometer like I did. I ripped the guages from some cheap dash mount unit I found at a local automotive "tack-on" store. It's back-lit when the lights turn on too ;) Looks better in reality... the camera seems to have picked up a lot of scratches that I don't normally notice. I have since put in an aftermarket JVC stereo with an ipod connector in the glovebox:

How much does that clinometer cost? Looks good in there though the way it is.

They are cheep gauges but work well. They stared out looking something like these:

then i used some black plastic from an old toolbox and made some mounts etc... took less than two hours.
