After the Grand Vitara Body Lift
« on: October 21, 2008, 04:07:32 AM »
Can anyone tell me how to refit the front and rear bars after the 2" body lift to my 99 GV LWB????
is there a custom mod that needs to be done or is there a simple trick that is staring me in the face.
If possable some pics would be great.

Also, does the toursion bar in the engine bay need to be refitted or can it be left off?
and is there anything else I should be doing?

Mugwi, if you are referring to your front sway bar:  http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=20143.0

If you are referring to yiour pan hard bar in the rear, with two inches of lift, I don't recall anyone having to extend it.

cut and re-weld the stock mounts up 2inches higher or just leave them off.  strut brace should be remounted, i had to do a little trimming inside the fender well so it would fit back on.

thanks, I was talking about the strut brace... The big old bar that straddles your engine from strut to strut...Do you need it or can it be thrown away along with the sway bar.

NO!
It is a structural member !
I just beat down the inner fender so it will fit in you may need to jack up the car to reinstall it.

What do you guys do around the shifter area when you have a body lift? On my Sidekick I had a body lift and I ended up removing the plastic console and bolting an S-10 shifter boot into the floor because the stock rubber accordion boot was binding. I am talking about 5 speed models obviously, automatics probably don't have this issue.

i had to cut the bottom of the plastic box around the shifter to get 2, 4 & R, otherwise the shifter hits the plastic, then i just installed a cheap after market non rubber shift boot.  looks ok and works.

Yup...I just cut out some of the bottom edge of the plastic trim under the boot, put in a few screws, then stretched the OEM boot over the head of the screws.  Doesn't look too bad, really.
