hi guys,im in perth austalia and have put a 2.5 gv into my sierra(samurai),,awsome upgrade,but the engine has developed a squeal(not water pump or alternator)has any one come across this before

I just finished swapping 2.5 v6's. I put new belts on the motor as the others were cracked and worn. When I started the new motor there was a constant squeal. Not the loud type you get when the belt is loose or a water pump is going. Just a light back ground squeal. There was a build up of rust on one of the pulleys. Wire brushed it off and the squealing stopped. Have also seen squealing develop on worn belts. No matter tight you have them. Sometimes a belt dressing is a short term fix as well. Just a couple of ideas.

thanks for the input,but it squeals with the belts off,,,sound more like in the timing chain system,,,
any help welcomed

Maybe timing chain tensioners.  Which wouldn't be pretty.

i found the problem,,,a vacuum leak thru the metal gasket between the intake manifold chamber joining the front air balance tube near the oil filler cap.
simple but annoying bolts were tight  so i made new gaskets the old fashion way with gasket card.

That wasn't even on my list of guesses.
