New Suzuki Enthusiatist needs help :)
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:28:43 AM »
Hello all,
I am new to the world of Suzuki. I was wondering if anyone can tell where to find detailed info (pictures would be very helpful) for lifting a '02 Grand Vitara? I am wanting to install a 3 1/8" combo lift, but the only time i have ever spent under the hood of my Suzuki has been routine maintenance. I want to throw some 31's on it  :D And what about horsepower upgrades?

Hello Welcome to The forums

I have no idea where you would find a detailed photo/video about lifting your '02 GV I am sure though one of the members here has something for you....but most likely not detailed to your specific lift setup...

Do you have a shop (or garage) or area outside your house big enough to do such a project as well???

bigger exhaust cold air intake high flow c converter........will help and its a somewhat a cheap start....... I cant help you any further since I dont know what engine you got in your 02 GV

There are plenty of threads about lifting your GV on here, try the search function. Also try to search here:

And what about horsepower upgrades?

You can get a bit more at high revs by opening up the exhaust, at the expense of torque at low revs.  I know, because I had a replacement stainless steel system fitted (it was cheaper than mild steel !).  The low end torque suffered a hit, and I hardly ever use the high end power.

Similar resuts can be had by fitting a reground camshaft.

The other way is a custom turbo installation.  That should not hit the low end torque, but will use more fuel if you use the extra power.
There are a few threads about that on this board - do a search.

The best way, in general, is a larger engine.  Just don't expect to save fuel.

Fortunately, i do have a place to undertake this project, as well as a backup vehicle to drive while my GV is down. I was hoping someone here had photos of the install, or at least the after pics of key install points. I can figure the rest out myself, i think. My GV is a 2.5 liter (ity bity ;D) I have seen a lot of debate on the tire size that can be used, but i believe a lift between 3 and 4 inches would allow me to clear 31 inch tires, with minimal tire rub. I currently have 235\70\R16 tires on it now, with no lift, and have a tiny bit of rub when turning hard in reverse, and that is about a 29 inch tall tire.

Do you know if there is a model specific kit for the GV, or do i need to get a universal one and adapt it to fit?

K&N should have a factory replacement element (good for virtually forever... when you periodically clean it and re-oil it with their recharge kit).  Easy to do.  Don't know if they make a cold air intake specifically for your engine, though.  Google "K&N filters" and check out some of the venders to see what is availabe for your engine.

Also search for "headers" on the forum here and I think you'll find one of the forum members fab'ed some tube headers for his V6.   He was discussing building some others with forum members a while back.  He may be interested in fabbing a set for you... for the right price... if you're interested.

Hurricane headers (an Aussie firm) makes quite a few headers for Rovers and Japanese trucks.  For instance, Hurricane brand headers are the only ones I have foundfor our 2 Liter engines.  Again, if you can afford the price and the shipment, there is another option for you.
'02 Chezuki Tracker with a 2 Liter and 5spd.  It works for me!!!
