Window Help
« on: May 21, 2009, 05:13:19 PM »
My front driver and passenger side windows are becoming worn

they are able to move in and out about 40mm........ meaning everytime I hit a bump I hear the window vibrate against the frame

inside the door panels (have not taken them off yet at all) but before I do are there little stoppers inside that need to be readjusted that will hold the window in place.....or do I have to start replacing window gasket to keep that window straight....

retighten the bolts that hold the windows on????
I have power windows...let me know guys thanks

Are both your windows operating (going up and down) smoothly?  Any problems with the windows canting and/or becoming wedged because they are coming up at an angle?  Raise the windows up to about two inches from full closure and measure the opening on the far left and far right top of the HORIZONTAL edge.  If they are equal, it doesn't appear to be loose screw/s in your regulators.  If they are uneven, then you might have a screw in the regulator out of adjustment.

it seems the windows have been replaced by the previous owner for some reason or another

Typically when the regulator/s start failing, they start dragging when you roll the window up.  Even with electric windows you can detect the motros pulling harder to raise the window.  With manuals they require more torque.

When the glass slips in the regulator it frequnetly goes up at an angle and can even wedge in a partially closed position unless you grab the window on the low side and physically pull it up level again.  So if any of the above are happening, chances are good you probably have either loose screws on your regulator or a bad regulator.   Sometimes the regulators simply need to be lubed with a multipurpose grease.

It's completely common for the screws holding the window to the regulator to loosen over time with these trucks.  I have to re-tighten mine every 18-months or so.  It's not a big operation, and will be reasonably obvious when you get the panel off.

While you have the door panel off, work the window left and right a little and check out the mounting points.  Tighten as required.  Check the regulator mounting points as well.  Don't forget to lube the regulator while you have the panel off.
