Anyone running bighorns? Looking to invest sometime soon, but leaning farther and farther away from an A/T, this seems to be a slight middle ground between A/T and M/T 's. I live in Northern Ontario (CAN), and will be dealing with a variety of terrain.   Need something that can take some snow too. Any thoughts or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I ran Big Horns on my 2011 GV for about 3 weeks and then took them back and got different tires.  I loved everything about the tires with the exception of the noise.  They droned at every speed except for 0-10mph. 

I sure wish I could have kept them, but they were just so loud I couldn't make it work anymore.

Thanks for the input rob,    if you don't mind me asking, what did you switch to? Im leaning quite heavily towards 30's, so the options are slightly limited.

I went with Good Year Duratracks.  I have a lift on my GC, so I was able to fit a slightly larger tire on mine.  I love the Duratracks, but now they are starting to get loud too.  I need to have them rotated and balanced.  Once that is done, I bet they quiet back down for a while.

We're running the Bighorns, 245x75 R16. They've been great so far, good traction. I would say the noise is typical for a traction tire. It's quiet enough with the windows up.

The cost made them worth it. At our local Les Schwab, there was about a $80 difference between these and the Toyo MT's, PER TIRE.

How about Mastercraft Courser C/Ts?  Kind of a cross between an AT and a mild MT tire.  They give off just a slight hum at highway speed, the blocks are siped and they track well on wet roads and through puddles on the road.  I'm betting they go good in the snow too.  You can pin the tread for winter too.  Reasonably priced and they seem to be wearing very well on my truck.  I have right at 10K on them.  Just a thought.

I didnt want a radical mud tire for my Kick, but most of the AT's out there are not much more than a all season street tire in larger sizes. I went with the Procomp MT's, a less aggressive, siped and pinned for studs mud tire. 8K miles now and they are about 30% worn out. When brand spanking new they were awesome in wet, snow, ice, rock and mud, but the sipes wore down very quickly and have lost any advantage they had over other mud terrains. The ride into town is 23 miles with half of that being dirt back/fire roads, by the end of last years winter(which was very mild) the Procomps were kinda scary on the frozen icey dirt roads. I will be dumping these very shortly for a set of Goodyear Wrangler Durtracs.

I have the Duratracs on my Wrangler.  They ride smooth but are a bit noisy when rolling slowly such as starting or stopping.  I loose about 2 mpg with them over the stock tires.  I switch back and forth and always notice the reduction in mpg with them.

Ive got the maxis bighorns on my gv in 245/75/16 and they are crap. The are almost worn out and have only traveled 20,000kms. I wouoldn't buy another set but if they were given to me i'd use them.

as for noise they are quiet compared to the Xtremes.

My next tyres will be either KM2's or Cooper STT's

Decided on General Grabber AT2's,    found a set of 30's online for $120/ per and free shipping.... just couldn't say no  

Just a FYI, not all Grabber AT2's are created equal, 2 different rubber compounds are used, the harder compound does not recieve a snow rating even though they can be studded.

Are you gonna get them studded Max?  If so we'll be taking your truck ice fishing this year!
