well when i was doing my body lift i had the steering wheel shaft unhooked and my daughter (10) was helping me.... any way she spun the steering wheel about 50 times when i wasnt looking and now the airbag light is always on and the horn does not work.... i have no experience with air bag cars, any thoughts?  thanks.

I take it this is not a 2nd Gen Tracker (It says "90" in your sig.)

According to my X-90 manual, which should be similar, there is a "Contact coil & combination switch assembly" under the wheel.  There is a sketch with the wheel removed, and it shows a harness connecting to the horn and airbag.  It looks as if the harness unclips at both ends.

The book says "Do not turn contact coil more than allowable number of turns (about 2.5 turns each way from ahead) or coil will break."  I guess that's the problem; you need a new contact coil - hopefully it's separate to the combination switch.

If you want to look, disable the airbags first.  Turn the ignition off and remove the airbag fuse (yellow fuseholder under the dash).  Then undo the yellow harness connectors under the dash on both sides.  The airbag-side connectors have shorting bars in them, which short out the leads to the bags when the connectors are parted.

Your Clockspring is broken :o . Unhook your battery immediatly and dont let your daughter sit in front of them. You may have a timebomb in front of you. Replacing the clock spring is pretty easy, UNHOOK THE BATTERY!, keep the wheels turned straight ahead, remove airbag assembly; 2 bolts on the backside of steering wheel. Pull airbag out of the way, there will be a yellow plug and wire coming off the back off the airbag that is the clockspring, I think they are around $100. When you reassemble everything and reconnect your battery the airbag light should be off and your horn should work. ;)

Unhooking the battery is not a sufficient precaution.  The airbag harness connector MUST be disconnected.

Even then, it is advised that protective goggles be worn when removing the airbag.

wow!  well she is at her moms for the summer so no worries about her, but i drive the dang thing every day.  i will unhook it this weekend and hope till then.....  i thought you had to unhook the  battery and then deenergize the air bag some how.  did i read somewhere that you push in and hold on the brake pedal?

No, that's to reset the ECM (clear fault codes. etc.)

It's not enough to just unhook the airbag under the dash, because the contact coil is damaged and could provide a path for radiation to induce a voltage to set the bag off.  Perhaps someone going the other way transmitting on a CB radio................. ::)

Either a full repair, or disconnect between the airbag and the contact coil, or remove the airbag and store it somewhere safe.

Yellow wire and yellow plug connect airbag to clockspring. You must remove the airbag from the steering wheel to disconnect.

I can not get my air bag horn to turn off.
Either the horn switch is stuck on, or there is a short to ground somewhere on the horn wire.
