I took my 2001 Tracker LT out with a few friends to go two trackin'. I followed a 95 Pathfinder lifted 3" with 31's and a Jeep on 30's. It pulled through everything just fine, I did hit a few big rocks that I just didn't have the clearance for, but went on with no problems. Four good scrapes, but the only time a tow strap was hooked to the Tracker was pulling a stuck Rubicon from it's resting place. All went well, we went to a car wash and cleaned most of the stuff off. I didn't notice any leaks, but I did see that my drain plug had taken a hit or two. Now, being the dumb ass I am, I figured I'd just check it out later. Well, fast forward a week and guess what happened! Yup, the drain plug fell out! I had just filled up and checked the oil. Everything was fine, but I did notice a bit of a drip when I pulled away. Wasn't sure if it was there before, but I'm betting it wasn't now! About two miles down the road, my oil light comes on, I figure I'll stop at the next station a few miles away and check it out. It didn't make it :'(. I can't be mad at anybody but me, but I need my ass kicked! Questions will follow in another thread.

That's alright I lost the filter on a Chevy van at about 60mph. I did not tighten it, got in a hurry. Hope it all works out.

I'll be following your further engine repairs in the other post, as I'll need to pull mine one day (223K miles and counting) I'm sure. I've already got another good (60K) engine in hot standby.

For future reference, your engine's already taking damage by the time the oil light comes on. Pull over IMMEDIATELY when it goes off, and check things out... it's quite literally your last warning to stop before the engine 'blows up'.

It's great that you've got that many miles on your GV.  I'm right around 170,000 on mine now (adjusting for bigger tires....the ODO reads about 160,200).  Just the other day, I noticed a small oil leak on the front passenger side of the engine.  Doesn't look too bad, but I'll have to keep an eye on it.  Would like to have the 2.7L engine dropped in when this one dies!  Take care. 

Yeah, I too have a small engine oil leak. Rear main I believe, or maybe the timing cover and running back. Not sure. It's not bad, but drips on to the exhaust and I can smell it more than anything. I can still go a quart down btwn changes w/o having to add oil because of it.

Have you checked the distributor o-rings? They're notorious for leaking on Suzuki engines. Soaking them overnight in PB blast, or buying the replacements from your favorite online Zook dealer (about $10 to your door) should fix it.

Mine was a combination of the valve cover not being tight (closest to firewall) and the o-ring thing (I used PB Blast method, been about 2 years, and it's still fine).

Have you checked the distributor o-rings? They're notorious for leaking on Suzuki engines.

I don't think that's necessarily true of the V6s.  They are basically Mazda engines with some mods.

First mistake. When you are cruising and the oil light comes on turn the motor off right away, If not as you seen its game over.

As for 2.0L oil leaks most comon front timing cover and valve cover rear. Ive done a few.

Im doing one last night new oil pan, new valve cover seal, rear main and front main. Oh and make sure to check the rear Crank sensor  behind the flywheel, yep has to be the best place i have ever seen one of those LOL.
