Is this the same?
« on: July 17, 2020, 01:22:12 PM »
Is the rusty cross member the same as #24 in the diagram? Also at this link:
(2003 Chevy Tracker 2 door)
https://www.gmdiscountpartsnow.com/p/Chevrolet__Tracker/Powertrain-Skid-Plate-Powertrain-Skid-Plate-Transfer-case/48640136/30023467.html?partner=BingShopping

I did send an this same inquiry to the Chevy dealer in the link but never heard back from them. It's item 24 in the diagram and I think the cross member goes where the red circles are in the other diagram.

Any help appreciate. My last resort is to have something fabricated.

It's not the same as #24 in that diagram either.

The rusty "cross member" pictured is what I would describe as the transfer case or transmission cross member - #11 in the diagram below

#24 in the first post is a transfer case skidplate that, as far as I know, Suzuki never offered, but Chevrolet fitted to it's ZR2 models
#24 in the third post is the front suspension cross member - they do rust, but, it is not the cross member pictured.

Thanks, Fordem, much appreciated. I was able to eventually locate one on Ebay and got it in three days. Cleaned it up; primed and painted it.

This was a long saga of getting this part. I just got lucky on Ebay. I email a least a dozen bone yards and all are still living in the 90's. I could not find one that wasn't paranoid about "Paypal and shipping out the part." You can bring the horse to the water but you can't make them drink.

One great thing that happened was I used an aggregator and was able to see all the 99-04 parts-Trackers all over the country that are currently on Craigslist. First time I've ever bought a major frame part for an automobile without ever seeing the part number. but I got it done. I bought this car for my grand daughter's graduation and she really likes it: 68k from the original owner.

You're welcome, unfortunately I don't have access to Tracker part numbers, just Suzuki and they are not always the same, although in this case I suspect they would be interchangeable.

Whilst strong enough for it's designed task, the transfer case/transmission cross member is fairly easy to bend if you get "high centered" off road, it's not a bad idea to fit a skid, even if it's just to prevent catching the front edge on a rock.

Finally found a link to the part.and part number for those that might need it at some point.
