CV joint slipping out
« on: October 21, 2008, 11:47:28 PM »
Hi I drive a 04 Grand Vitara 2.0 4WD. It is fitted with a Calmini lift kit and has a 2 body lift. I had the car regeared to accommodate my 33 tires.
I am having problems with my front CV joint slipping out of the transfer case, when the vehicle is articulating. I have checked many times with my mechanic, have replaced the holding C-clip several times, but to no avail.

Some theories surfaced: the Calmini arm is with the drop transfer bracket causes the CV joints to be shortened.

Solution 1: Install a bum stop to limit articulation (which kinda suck).
Solution 2: Remobve the Calmini arm and replace with original.

Could you guys shed some light on this?

- Mat

When my 92 tracker was dropping enough to start moving the CV joint, it quickly blew the CV out.  Seeing as that is not your problem, you might try the mod using the drivers side (short) CV on both sides.  I believe it takes an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch of space.  That would solve your problem, and you would only need to carry one CV.  What are your CV angles when this happens?  Photo's?

Try sliding them in/out by hand - you might have lost the clip that holds them in place.

how about getting a pic of your rig on 33's.................  i'd like to see what and where you had to cut to fit those.  thanks.

what kind of struts and strut spacers are up there?  all calmini crap or otherwise?  what side is the problem?  how much play does the cv have just sitting there?  if you jack it up does the cv just slide out or does it need to be under load and wheels turned?
