Need information 2005 electric shift transfer case
« on: November 17, 2009, 11:21:05 PM »
I am looking for information, or wiring diagram for the electric shift transfer case out of a 2005 XL7.  I can't seem to find any information on it, and how/where the wiring goes.

This is on your swap project, right? Not sure but I think you can put the mechanical shifting mechanism in the the XL7 case from a GV or Sidekick or change the input gear package out of the XL7 case and put that into a GV/Sidkicke case, then bolt that up.... if that'd work for ya.

Yes, it is on my swap project.  The two shifter shafts are not notched same as the transfer cases with a shift lever.  I could swap out the input shaft into an older transfer case I have, but should put new bearings in it, because the trany gears are shot.  It seems like I should only need to input the position I want to be in to the ECM, then it would send the proper voltages + - to the shift transfer motor.  I can not find a 2005 (which the motor & transmission are) wiring diagram that shows the switch.  I can't even find anything on the electric shift, other than reviews that say it came out in 2005.  Thought maybe one of the newer platform readers might have something.
I just acquired the MAF, Y pipe, EGR pipe, and dipsticks & tubes for it.

Is this what you're looing for - if you have access to #99512-52D10-015 it'll be page 8A-6-29

ECU connector C51-2 pin 11 is 2WD/4WD - ground it for 4WD - this is Blk/Org wire.
ECU connector C51-1 pin 26 is 4WD low - ground it for 4WD low - this is Org/Wht wire.

No, but very close.  There should two, or three more wires going to a TC shift motor from the ECM.  Also a switch (2H - 4H - 4L) going to the ECM (?).  When I get home, I will check wiring colors and possibly pin number going to ECM from the TC shift motor.
I will check that number you supplied.  I do not have switch or its wiring, but that would be only way to get signal to TC shift motor.  I have two electronic manuals, but have not found one that shows the electrical shift transfer case.  If I knew the model number it would help.
Thanks for the information.

This one is for the second generation Grand Vitara - it uses an electrically shifted transfer case, which may or may not be similar - I think it also has a 4WD control module - let me know if the wire colors match and I can probably dig up a little more detail.

Yes, that appears to be some of the information I am looking for.
Which set of Serial Numbers did you find this in?  Do you know if the TCM is in the BCM?  Any further information is always appreciated.
Thanks for the help.

That diagram comes from 99501-64J00-01E which is a supplement to the JB416/JB420 models - I don't have the entire manual set, just a couple of files I came across on the net - the earlier one I posted comes from a different manual, which I now think does not cover what you need.

Now - you need to bear in mind that this is not an XL-7, so your vehicle could be different - the 4WD controller is separate from both the TCM and the BCM.

In cruising through the electronic manuals I have, I caught two wiring diagrams that showed the TCM as a module (that was above the PCM).  Unless I find one of those for my year, I will try to convert mine back to shift lever.  Eric had suggested using the back of my old model case on this one, but I may be able to switch my shift rods and then the shift housing does bolt up to this housing.  Even then I will probably need the TCM.
Thanks a lot for the work and information FORDEM.
