Rusted Frame/ Undercarriage
« on: June 09, 2017, 10:04:47 AM »
I bought my 2001 2 door Chevy Tracker back in October and the undercarriage is rusted. The engine recently gave out and i'm figuring out whether to restore the car or give up on it. Where can I get a replacement for the undercarriage. I like the car and it's relatively tough to find a 2 door convertible. Would this suffice?

Perhaps you could define what you mean by "undercarriage", and which part is rusted.

As for that link, it's absolutely useless - after spending several minutes trying to figure out where in the "undercarriage" that part fits, and searching through the Suzuki parts manual for it, I noticed in small letters just under the image "not actual part".

Right now we have literally no way of knowing what part they are offering, no image, no manufacturer's part number, and we don't know what part it is you need.

I will look to see if I can add a picture of the underbody so it can be clearer. My apologies

#9 maybe?  It's bolted to the frame and supports the front of the control arms.

Scrap yard would be your best bet. The subframes had recalls on them and were replaced for so many years. The time limit is over now but there is a lot of them in scrap yards around my area. I have a couple spares from vehicles I scraped because I live in a salty area. Just replace one on my tracker because it was looking pretty rough.

Right now the tracker is in the garage as I'm awaiting around August to swap in a 2.5L engine to get it ready for winter. Out of curiousity are there any new chasis or frames I can eventually purchase that would fit the tracker? Like for instance a 2 door jeep chassis or would there be fitment issues? Down the line I would like to do a 350 v8 swap and would need a stronger chassis and matching transmission for it. But once I get it on a lift I will provide picture for opinions.

Again thank you for the replies
