ACOS?
« on: November 13, 2007, 11:53:07 AM »
hey guys just got my rig back on the road and now that im looking and measuring the rear sits lower than the front... even without any load in the back and with only 1/4 tank of gas.
im not thrilled with the coil spacers in the rear they work but under heavy playing i have already shot a coil out and killed the shock in the process, put all new shocks and struts in and even though i used the 2 in the rear and 1.5 in the front the front still sits higher... so im looking for something to ditch the rear spacers and still give me about 3-4 inches of lift, boondox sells 3 inch rear 4 door lift springs for the 1st gens for about 150 bucks and from what i could tell the 4 doors on both gens are about an inch taller than the 2 doors and the 2nd gens are an inch taller than their 1st gen counter part... so a 3 inch 4 door 1st gen lifted spring will end up being "atleast from what ive seen" also 3 inch's on a 2 door 2nd gen... if you can follow all that....
ive seen all kinds of post on using toyo front springs aswell as tj/xj or xl7 springs in the rear for anything from 1-4 inches of lift the only ones ive seen on 2nd gens are xl7's so far, does anyone know for sure how much lift i will get out of different coils on the 2nd gen? and if they will fit?

last but most intresting to me is the ACOS system im sure it will work being the spacers we use are basically the same as xj/tj spacers, and seems to be a pretty simple setup... i would just rip out the bump stop and then probably weld in the top of the ACOS to the spring cup and then have a nice adjustable spacer with built in bumpstop from 1.75-3.75 inches so i can dial it in even change it based on loads for 50 bucks more than boondox i might try it tell me what you know and what you think

From what I can see on the link, the downside is that the bump stop is not extended when the lift is dialled in.  So the upwards excursion will be limited by the shocks or the springs - not good.

if you can find some cheap gv or xl7 coils toss em in the back with your spacer, will work fine but ride rough with no weight in back.  also, anymore lift and your crown vic shocks will not be long enough anymore..

im not using crown vics im just using stock size gabriel ultras with a 2 inch extention and the 2 inch spacers... it still seems to sit about an inch lower than the front maybe a little more ... so ill probably have to do atleast 3 inches to make it look right "atleast in my opinion"  i think i might just get the 3 inch spring from boondox and then i can cut the spacer to whatever size i need to make it look right... i know i have to extend the brake line and probably do some kinda drop with the rear a arm to make up for the lift, is there anything else i need to do? will the controll arms be fine? i dont think i will go much more than 3-3.5 lift in the rear

i felt the same way after doing my original lift, rear seemed a little low.  i have the xl7 coils, 1.75 heep spacer - no extension of the brake lines(plus 2in body lift) and run a shock at least 1.5in longer than the crown vics which might be a little shorter than using stock and the extensions.  no panhard relocation or driveshaft extension, everything has held together nicely.  so far......

so your running what just shy of 3 inches of lift then?
it probbaly has alot to do with the new struts and everything boosting the front up more then im use to, but i can acctually clear small "30.80" 31's on the front with 8 inch steals and it doesnt rub any worse than the 235's do but the rear i would have to hack out a good 1/2 inch or so of the front corner and it looks like at full art. i will rub just a bit in the fenders... i think im gonna go with boondox 3 inch springs so i dont have to worry about loosing the spacers... will be really close to needing a break extention i think though...
