so, seems that things have slowly started to fall apart on the tracker, the list is getting longer but the dealership is great for warranty work.  so far; fan clutch assembly, starter, front C clip in pass CV 2x, gonna be 3rd tomorrow.., catalytic converter, soft-top, i can't even remember everything but there's so much more.... oh, belts 2x and found out there is a service bulletin on newer model tracker that the pulleys get out of balance and that's what causes a lot of squeaking in the front.

so yesterday i dropped the tracker at the garage across the way from my office and had the strut extensions put in, wow, that did not go smooth!  strut was seized into the mount, had to torch it out, fix the thread on the strut, order new mount..  extensions were tighter than hell to get on.  then replace the one inch spacer with a 1.5, getting the coils back in was tough.  then put the XL7 rear coils in with a 1/2inch spacer and it sits a little higher in back with no weight or gas in the tank.  the garage is pretty cool as he called me over and i helped out with the f'ed up stuff.  i'm hoping these springs will be able to carry more weight and sag less..  going to space down the rear shock about 1/2inch further for a tiny bit more travel..  will test it out off road this weekend!

oh, and putting my rear 1.5inch spacers from the back on the front... well, turns out the holes were much smaller and we had to bore them out, a drill worker but was slow and not perfect.

Where are you located?  Someplace that gets heavy salt in the winter?  How many miles on your Tracker?  Mine's an '03 too and had 45k on the original stuff when it was replaced, all in perfect shape (except for the motor...).  Now I've got 52k or so on the '02 XL-7 gear (which had 36k on it when I incorporated it).  I've had no problems with anything seizing, or with my belts/pulleys/c-clips, etc.  You're making me nervous.

ottawa canada, so we get lots of salt even though that was supposed to be change to a mix of salt and dirt.  pretty much just see salt coming from the trucks...  last summer parts came apart very easily, after the 2nd winter not so.  have 45k on it.

the belts, pulleys starter, fan clutch and so on are caused by deep water i think, not the salt, yet..  i wouldn't worry if i were you.  the front had weird quirks even when new with stock tires it had issues and the dealer addressed them, put on what i think may be an aftermarker CV assembly and the problem is coming from there.

I don't think the salts all to blame.
I will never,ever by another GM again. This cami built truck is a total rot box p.o.s!
-rockers with 2" holes rotted in both sides.
-door frames rotten.
-rad support / headlight mounts rotten.
-inside rear hatch, rotten from the inside out.
-so on and so on.

That "high quality" standard gm has is really showing why my next d-d will be a toyota/honda/kia/hyundia. Its a shame a 2001 tracker will be religated to a full time trail rig because the thing is rotting out.

LOL - you do see a lot of these 99+ models with a fair bit of rust for sure.  i wonder when mine will start?!

The rear spacers and front are different rear has smaller hole.
Upper strut mounts always seize up here :(

We should go wheeling soon as i get my skid plates done

lol - ya, i had no idea the hole would be a different size, didn't recall that difference.  oh well, they're on now!  i have the 1 inch as spares but i may put them in the back if the fit is not too loose and take out the 1/2 inchers.  i got used to the back sitting up a bit and the look of the wheel wells is lower again now that the rig sits level.

there is a stock friendly run tomorrow, it should be really good run, you will be ok without skid plates on this one.  it's a good group of people, not competitive or pushy, like to see everybody come out with a working truck!  i'll pm you the details.

You do realize that the chevy tracker is not built by gm right, open you hood and look at the tag, its a suzuki.

Hey leepster,
I know exactly who and where they were built as I drive past the plant in Ingersoll Ontario about 20 times a month and actually it is a GM plant that suzuki co-op'd with them to build the tracker and std vitara on the same lines.
Now it builds equinox,breeze and whatever name gm slaps on the silly replacement for the tracker/vitara but hey thank for comin' out.

my front end is still f'ed.  thought it was likely same clip busted on the cv seal.. dealer took it apart and says its good, but the thing is still loose.  wheel bearing also f'ed on that side, should be in today or tomorrow, they're trying to tell me that this will fix the problem, i don't f'ing think so.  i cannot wrap my head around how the f wheel bearing will make my cv loose at the diff.  ???  i'll have to wait and see, these guys have been great but i think they're getting tired of seeing me in their shop... 

with the xl7 rear coils in place the back end rides better, really rough with nothing back there, but perfect with the addition of some fuel or junk.  i have a 1/2 inch spacer in there with these coils, i think i will have to put my spare 1inch spacer in and take the small one out though.  it had been said that these things provide 3inches of lift but i will disagree to with that, maybe 2 inches with these springs and no spacer.

got the tracker back today with a few new goodies; wheel bearing, new cv axle & bearing inside diff, all on passenger side.  thinking that manaul hubs are next item, the pass side has continuous problems where the other side is fine!  i have to say the dealership i go to is pretty damn great!  can't wait to hit the trails again ;D

so, i didn't make it to suzican because i was being lazy and just went into my secret camping spot due to the shitty weather, i just didn't feel like setting up, packing up and setting up again in the rain..

i did manage to ride a couple easy trails with the new parts in and the ride on the trails is much better now.  the strut extension are a great help and the XL7 rear coils work well also.  i was having a bit of a problem with the rear tires rubbing the front of the rear fender on the hwy even with 4inches of rear lift (body & susp), at speed with weight i would get light rub on train track crossings and shitty roads.  this didn't happen once with the XL7 coils, they handled the weight really nicely.  i'd still like to get 1/2inch more height back there but don't need it know.

i noticed with the tracker on a hoist that i have more front than rear travel now.  not cool so i thought i'd be a cheap ass and just add some washers to space down the rear shock, no go, bolts are seized...  guess i gotta get some new rear shocks now, longer than the crown vics because i really don't think they are long enough.

hey bzzr2 this work is all being done on your trick while it is modified?? and this is a dealership you are when hell of a lucky guy most dealerships would deny you warranty due to abuse and non oem parts. that is a cool dealership

yup, these guys are great, there have been little hiccups with service, but nothing out of line, often just communication between the large number of people working in the shop.  they are great!  i also think they get a kick out of the tall tracker that comes in on occasion.   that said though, i don't wait for things to fail and break completely, i'm always underneath making sure things are all clean, in place and tight, so i end up noticing things before they become a big problem and bring it in already having a pretty good idea of what exactly is wrong.

just the fact that they will warranty it is amazing i have literally seen work refused for a CAI on a car and catback. not to mention when suspension work start .....nissan canada actually was hunting down owners from the xterra owners club and refusing to do extended factory warranty work becuz they were seen on a club page offroading the truck. it turned into a court battle. it is nice to see that there is still some decent shops out there.
