I got the name wrong - the thing I'm thinking of is called the Load Sensing Proportioning Valve:

Now I can't find out whether it IS fitted to your GV, but you can have a look where I said - it's easy to spot if you get under the truck and follow the brake pipe forward from the rear axle.

  same  like  in  the   picture  you   put .
 
now  no  wonder  i  didnt  find  out  what  was  a  "dohickey" ;D ;D ;D

i  will  try  to  fit  it  there    in  the  weekend  - lots   exams  here  in  the  universisty  :'(


if  someone  have  it  installed  -  it  can  be  usefull  that  ..... ;)

I have that valve too. since I have boondox spacers and 2 inch lift shocks in rear should I maybe make something similar? guessing it drops the unit down ot brings the part that is attatched to the axle up. I had to relocate my brake line and E brake lines alrady so they wouldn't bind up.. who knows, maybe boondox sent me 3 inch lift shocks... they sure have allot of travel if you ask me (they did send me a few wrong parts for sure)
2000 Grand Vitara.. boondox coil spacer lift w/ pro comp 2 inch lift shocks and ome struts. 225/75 R16 Kumho Mt's, powdercoated wheels, rear brake line relocation and stuff to acomodate. custom exhaust and intake along with some 1 off accesories.

My FSM for Gen 2 only covers ABS, but the Gen 1 FSM says that, with the fuel tank full and the truck empty of load, the spring should measure 3.9" (99mm) from the top of the top "hook" to the bottom of the lower hook.

To adjust, you slacken the spring anchor bolt on the arm attached to the suspension, move the bolt and tighten up.  I guess if there's not enough adjustment, that's where the blue bracket comes in?

The only thing is that the Gen 2 suspension is different, so the spring force and/or the adjustment value may be different.

Maybe someone with no lift and without ABS could measure his?

I heard people with toyta's just undo it form the axle and tie it up all the way so it's like a full load all the time and more power to the brakes all the time.. not sure if it's a good idea but I'm considering it

i  want  to  emphasise  that   i didnt  change  nothing  in  hte  car  it is    - 140 m'm   - stock 
  with  half  full  gas  tank - no  modification  made ...(yet)

(before  installing  the  calmini  lift  kit)

Hmmm, I'd be a bit cautious about that.  I've lifted my 1st Gen (X-90) and haven't checked the adjustment, so the valve thinks the load is lighter than it really is, and it limits the pressure more than it should, but the other day I had to do a very sharp stop and the rear tyres both broke away.  When that happens you lose much of the braking effect from those tyres.

So actually allowing it to be set for full load all the time would be quite a bit worse.

Here is what my 02 Tracker manual says about adjusting the LSPV.

10. Place the vehicle on a level floor.
11. Verify trim height (check that your suspsension is setup correctly....)
12. Push up on the LSPV lever (1) with your finger until the lever stops.  Measure the lenght of the coil spring (2). 
MEASUREMENT
The coil spring should measure 103 mm (4.06 in) betewwen the spring ends.

Note that you are supposed to push the lever up with your finger first to make sure it is fully extended.

lol, I don't think they have a 2 inch lift in mind although in my opinion it's allot more "correct" than stock.

about that valve, sounds like having it up all the way all the time is a bad idea. the lever on mine is probably all the way down all the time with my lift. I think when I get around to it I'll check my hayne's book and see what they say

I've just read the 1st Gen FSM again.  It says the greater the load, the more the spring pulls on the valve lever. I thought it was the other way round, because it looks to me that, as the load increases, the axle gets closer to the frame, so the spring is stretched less. 

If I'm wrong, someone please tell me why.

Do you have a Haynes manual for the GV?  When I looked they only had the Sidekick's and early Vitara's but did not cover the V6.

doesn't cover V6 but covers all 1st and 2nd gen 4 cyl vit/kick/tracks


that thing about the lever being down more making more of a load makes sense because the harder you stop the more the front sags and the back should go up as well. while that happens maybe the thing opens up or something


I don't know, but I think my brake line relocation is hitting that spring.. lol. I need to check that out

I'm not sure how the valve works, but yes that is the point of the LSPV.  When there is more weight on the rear there is more traction so you can brake harder without slipping.  Maybe the Toyota's are designed differently.

I don't think it matters if you have a lift.  As long as you get the spring to the correct length, it will have the correct effect.  But you do need to check when you apply the lift.  My guess is that a 2" lift will need a 0.2" adjustment (that assumes the bracket is about a tenth of the way along the suspension link).
