Newbie lift questions
« on: April 15, 2005, 08:06:16 PM »
New to the GV world here but not to offroading so I have a few questions about lifting my 2000 GV. Hold on tight I have a few. I would like to do the BDS 2" coil lift and a 2" body lift. What do I need to make this lift work correctly, any extra parts? Will the 2" coil lift create any drivshaft vibrations. I have not looked to see if what kind of driveshaft the GV has, does anything have to be done to the driveshaft? What size of tires will fit with no cutting? What are some not too expensive shocks I should get? Does anyone make a LSD for the front end? Any one run in to problems with this set up please let me know.....thank you

I am thinking about the same route, more or less... I already have a 2" BL kit from RRO, and am waiting on +1.5" springs. Will install everything together. For this type of lift, you don't have to worry about driveshafts or lowering front diferentials, etc.
Iwas thinking of 29" tires (which later will probably turn out to be 30", as they will be reconstructed), and expect no cutting.
I am not aware of any LSD for the front end.

could I clear 30"x10.50x16 with 3 inches of lift. I'm thinking of the RRO 1" coil spacers and 2" BL and going bigger later if neccisary.

I'm not sure about the width... You'll probably get a lot of frame rubbing at front, at full turning. You could use wheel spacers to solve this though. But maybe then you would have a problem with the front wheel wall.

will the 2" BL affect my transfer case shifter or my auto trans shifter. I know I need to get a steering extenstion...anything else? I've decided on 235/70 tires for now so I should have no problems there.

That is the same set up I have on my 1999 Suzuki GV.  However I decided to get it professionally installed instead of paying friends to help me out because it is a daily driver and I need it back on the road ASAP.

The problem that came up with the springs was that with the stock control arms and the larger springs this made my camber way off.  I went and had a computer alignment done.  With the calmini lift you get larger control arms so you dont have to get a computer alignment but unfortunately calmini doesnt offer an unconditional warranty on their springs.

With the bodylift there were two problems; the body lift made my steering alignment off center to the right. I bought the RRO steering extensions to correct this.  RRO recommend it for 99+ gv and trackers but be warned $40 USD for two bolts sure left a bitter taste in my mouth :o.  The other problem is the bumper skirts didnt fit on the flanges anymore.  The shop had to machine new mounts for the bumper skirts.

The biggest size tires I was able to fit without hacking my bumpers, or having tire rubbing during turning was 235/70/16 (30") tires.
1999 Suzuki GV 2 inch BDS Springs, 2 inch RRO body lift, Old Man Emu struts, Rancho shocks, 30" BFG A/T tires, Cobra CB with PA speaker.  Planning to get custom strut spacer made and a lockright locker in the rear in the near future.

Do you have any pics of the bumper skirt mounts. I will do the lift myself but will most likely need to get the skirt mounts made. What kind of shop could make the new mounts, and what could I expect to pay for the mounts? Do the calmini adjustable trailing arms fix the off camber prob?

Sorry I have no pics of the bumper skirt mounts or do I know what they look like.  The off camber problem was due to the larger BDS springs and stock control arms.  I dont believe the shop had any problems with installing the springs in the rear  so It wasnt necessary to buy the trailing arms.

Well, we get the idea that the bumpers get to spot OK. When I install my BL i'll make some pics of the bumper adapters ;).
